No, he is your employer, swear at him if you are sacked or if you have found something better.

Agree, sorry should have put my answer in the original post. I don't understand how he couldn't be sacked. Abuse? Threatening behaviour? Like you sail Gil at least he lost 6 weeks pay. And guess who's doing all the **** shifts now......

No I don't think it is okay to swear at the boss, but equally I don't agree with bosses swearing at their staff - but it happens.

I slate him if he tries to take the p7ss yeah,IF he does the "right" thing then i'm sound with him,but if he tries it on he gets told properly!!!
I'm probs different to most tho,the lad i work for was a bricky at a big subbies we both worked for before he set up on his own(so workmate really),then he rang me to offer a job and i took it after much thought
So ive called him all the thieving bas7ards under the sun tbh,but thats the building trade

when I was managing a driven sales team of 6 men they would often tell me they "they F*&king nailed it" etc etc when it came to bragging about their successes, but they knew it would be crossing the line to swear at me, it is a respect thing and as a boss you have to earn the respect of your team

There is strong language and there is directing it to a single person. Having always worked in heavy industry I have always heard strong language, it just goes with the territory. No one ever swore directly at me, not to my face lol! and equally I have never done that either. It would be crossing the line I think, unless you have a friendship type relationship with the person or they know you are joking and have a very good sense of humour...

Yes there is a time and a place, and to an extent depends on what industry you are in. I'm in the building industry the same as Pabs and you hear it all day long, but as soon as it gets personal and threatening that's when the line must be drawn. Ive had plenty of arguments on site but can't remember actually swearing at anyone, I think once it gets to that point the emotion has taken over and you are best to walk away.

Looks like the bloke in the article realised the error of his ways as it did say he wrote a letter of apology.
