      UK Going Down The Pan?

      Hi All

Spoke to a friend back in the UK this morning and he told me in no uncertain terns that he UK has gotten worse than ever, in terms of jobs, violence and the way people generally feel

I know this is a broad brush he is using there but, with moving back home at the forefront of my mind and having been here in Oz for nearly 5 years.....
      Is it really that bad?

Will I notice a big change when I go back?

Worried I may have become to 'Australian'...

What really matters here is your own spending power and job security. If you can find decent employment, then things aren't going to change much for you regardless of what the current unemployment rate is.

The main thing my parents have noticed in the UK is increased food prices, but that's happened in Australia too.

Like the previous post i think it depends on your job and how safe it is and earning power, although not sure what job is safe anymore if they are cutting back on nursing staff in Hospitals how much worse can it get. I work for the council and theres going to be more cut backs to come in staff and earnings and in my line of work ( care ) we are going to be handed over to the private sector in 2014. Petrol is expensive so i find i only use my car for work, food has gone up, gas/electric has gone up increasingly over the years, so all i can say is a lot of folk have been affected with pay cuts or job loss which is quite a lot so i guess morale is pretty much low. Depends on a lot of things and why your coming back and what your coming back to as in friends and family, because my job has took a knocking and those people around me i find this country a bit bleak at the moment as i see a lot of people struggling financially. I do hope it works for you though i have neighbours just come back from Queensland and are renting a few doors away, haven't seen much of them to ask if they are settling okay they came back as she missed family after having kids. I hope there's more possitive feedback i am just being honest at what i find at the moment and i think it will be a few years until this country is out the recession. But we got through two world wars so i am sure the country will get through this......... such a small country with so many people. All the best Ann

It's not that bad. People are right in what they have said before, It does depend on if you can get a job and career prospects etc. It also depends where you will be living, where I am going is not much different than it was before I left. Woolies is gone and there is a Polish shop. All my friends are happy. I was at home for 3 months this year. I remember talking to all of them and asking them specifically and all of them (apart from one) said they wouldn't leave if they had the chance.

It's not that bad, you'll be fine. one of the the reasons we are leaving is because we cant find enough work but that just depends on what you work as, theres still jobs for other people or you can retrain. Remember if you dont like it you can still move back to oz

Seems things are crumbling and the rumblings about a separate part of the EEC make for dark clouds on the horizon.

Personally if I had a home a good job and lived anywhere in the world at the moment I think I would stay put till the dust settles if it ever does in Europe.

No-one will be isolated from a big collapse so best to consolidate I believe.

It will not affect us much as we are retired no debts but it can and will get sticky I believe.

I dont believe that the uk is completely bleak, sometimes i say that but its usually just when I have a bad day lol. but im finding it very hard to find work, construction work is drying up for dave and we cant get on the property ladder so i cant think of a better time to try and see if we can build a better life elsewhere

If you have no children are young and only two people I believe its fine, its people who have families and are maybe a bit older that may find it more difficult if things get sticky.
