The TV adverts with father's day stuff are generally aimed at adult children buying something for their father. Unless things have changed drastically, most kids will just be bringing home something they made at school, or buying their dad a tie/pair of socks, and bringing their dad breakfast in bed, consisting of burnt toast and spilt orange juice.

With clothing, I'll pay more if it's for quality, but not for a label. Cheap clothes can be bad economy, since they're often made from cheap fabrics, with bad workmanship, and often fall to pieces after a season. I'd rather pay twice as much for a good quality item that will last me for years (e.g. I have some jumpers I've had since 2004 and still look good).

That said, I've had real issues finding quality leather shoes to wear to work for a reasonable price over here. And the ones I have bitten my tongue and bought over here have started falling to pieces really quickly. Guess I'll be stocking up again next time I'm in the UK.

Now you tell me I could have saved myself from buying him an IPad and getting up early to drive down for a maccas breakfast
