Worrying Generalisation

I was just laughing at the funny generalisation thread & was going to post something funny & self deprecating about Goths as despite the generalisations Goths generally do have a good if sometimes warped sense of humour. But I came upon this link & thought it would make an interesting comparison. Certain elements in society take generalisations to heart & come up with this stuff OH My Goth it's a dangerous world when people try to use your brain for you

I just wondered what people thought when reading the views in the link above. Does anyone think it disturbing how generalisation can be listed as if true fact & promote people to say individuals aught be stoned to death for their lifestyle ? To me that is disturbing

Generally people who call for stoning's and all that jazz are imo religious nut case's as a lot of those poster's on that link , religion is an ass, but thats only my opinion

I wouldn't worry about it to much Rose I think Goths come of lightly compared to how people like that look upon homosexuality, muslims etc there just religious freaks.

I had to laugh No 27 - Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. I'd better stop the Sky subscription before the kids start dressing in black

And can you tell me where to get Count Dracula cereal please I reckon my kids would like that?

I think there are lots of people who hold religious views of various faiths keep there opinions to themselves & find their beliefs comforting etc & that's fine. But these are extremists who think they are the moral majority, their views are slating so many other beliefs under an umbrella of something entirely different.

A lot of religious views are drawn upon to make societies laws & the views of the mainstream in soceity informs government policies etc. So there is a knock on effect. Fortunately most people are more level headed or indifferent rather than believe extremist views, but if people who haven't encountered Gothic people read stuff like that they may form a prejudice without knowing, or turn a blind eye, & history shows what can happen when extremists have too much influence in society & abuse power. So IMO there should be balance to counter the effects of such extreme views & that's why i'm interested in what people on here think..

Oh I laughed at lots of it too, most is ludicrous , but when I was reading the views of these people it saddens me greatly.

Oh yeah Count Dracula cereal sounds great especially for a midnight snack

No but seriously, they are laughable, but unfortunately they are written with a firm belief that they are TRUE, tis a dangerous world we find ourselves in Rose,

That lists slates so many quite acceptable behaviours it's crazy.

But if you read on amongst the comments there is a teacher who says he makes a point of looking out for the Goth kids in his school as they are the ones behind school shootings etc so there you have someone in a position of authority who can take his prejudice into his workplace & effect childrens education & academic records , that's worrying for those children he encounters

My point, such sweeping generalisations are dangerous & can have a knock on effect.
