      Hi matey.

I think to a degree the film 'Wolf Creek' is VERY, VERY loosely based around the story of Joanne Leys/Peter Falconio, and a book called, 'Left For Dead In The Outback'.

As you say to say Wolf Creek bares any resemblance to fact is pushing the limit somewhat, but having said that if you fancy a fairly good read 'Left For Dead In The Outback' may tick some boxes for you.

I 'think' there was talk at one time of making it into a film as well.

      Cheers Tony.

LOL don't, I tried researching exactly what events it was based on and apparantly the screen play was written before the peter falconia murder but that hit the press just before the film was to be realeased so he added the based on real events just to get more interest, the bit at the the end where it says Ben Mitchell (think that was his name) spent 2 months in custody was quite convincing until I googled it and no such person exists. All lies lol

It's not a bad book, but again the trouble is knowing where fact and fiction end and begin,.

I tell you what my friend, I think we may have stumbled across a money making scheme,.

The murder bits are may be a bit too much, but how about this. We go off looking for PIO 2, get lost, no water, no food, have to forage for our sustinance, come across a local Aboriginal population, live with them for a few weeks, then walk into a servo up by Sandfire Roadhouse and sell our story to the media, we would be minted my friend, or am I pushing the realms of feasability, oh and by the way, shhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone else..

OK, a serious note here (and sorry Mandy for going off thread, but). When I was living in Broome a young man (can't remember his name now, bugger) but I think he was a Swiss national got lost in the outback.

Massive search for him, went on for weeks, eventually some Aboriginal trackers found him, BUT, this is the good bit.

When the media found out a channel 9 or 10 helicopter flew out to pick him up. Now the fella had lost a hell lot of weight, he was dehydrated, and exhausted. So the helicopter picks him up but they had forgotten to get the cameras rolling. So, they decide to drop the poor bugger off again in the middle of nowhere, fly away and then come back and 'pretend' they had found him.

Wouldn't have been so bad, but before he got out of the helicopter they had given him a banana, and when they filmed him being 'found' the poor bugger was throwing his ring up because he hadn't been used to food.

True story, and when it did come out, no one battered an eyelid, ahh, the good old press, never let the truth get in the way of a good story..

      Cheers Tony.

Surprised nobody mentioned Chopper! You cant help but laugh at him. I'm so detached from the australian news these days...does anyone know if Chopper Reid is still alive? Last I heard he was ill.

My favourite would be Muriels Wedding. Deidre Chambers...what a coincidence!!
