Flights Home and FBT

Hello to all on the terrific Pomsinoz.

I moved to Australia in October last year with my wife and two young children and it's been one heck of a ride, but that's another story.

We're planning to head back for a trip in August and my question is, if my employer pays for the flights back for my family, will they be subject to a fringe benefit tax charge? At 47%, it's going to hurt if they are.

Any advice most welcome and thanks in advance.

Stuart

Hi Stuart
Sorry I have no idea whether you will be taxed on your flights or not but my hubby has a company car that is subject to fringe benefit tax but his company pay it not him. Would this be the same for you??

Thanks anyway Sam. Not quite what I was looking for. I just need to know if the flights for my wife and children, if paid by work (as proposed) will be taxable.
Cheers
Stu

Hi Stub, I know in our case that the company takes total responsibility for our paid for flights, back to the uk though i have'nt used them i have brought my kids out ere 3 times since dec 07 , there is no come back on us for tax what-so-ever, have you asked them the question ? at least it would put your mind at rest go on just ask, oh if they agree that you are not responsible for fbt and you still feel uneasy get them to put it in writing ... im sure youre not going to have a problem good luck
