My son is also in state school with a soccer scholarship & has not had any problems at all. Sorry to hear the hassles your son has had.

Thanks Sharon
Our kids went to Halls Head Primary in Mandurah. Our boy is very shy and he became a target for more confident children (bullies). It caused us quite a lot of stress, and to be honest, the school did nothing to help. I have heard the high school is just the same but my kids are out of it now so I don't know for sure. I suppose children that are not shy could get on fine there.
Since leaving there my lad is like a different child.

Hope this all doesn't sound too negative because, all in all, our time so far in Oz (since Jan '06) has been brilliant.

Hi 2 u all.

I just wanted to say thanks for the feedback and info on Perth.
Its really interesting to see how others are settling in as this is our ideal location should we eventually get chance to make the move down under.

I'm strugggling with the work thing at the moment as I work in a brewery here in the UK and it doesnt appear to be a recognised trade in Oz.

My wife and 4 kids are hoping to come down on hols next yr with a view to having a good look round the area for housing, schools, work etc.

Keep up the excellent comments as we find them really helpful.

Mick and Sal

Hi Ali
Hi everyone
Just found your site after being in Aussie for over 1 year now. I may not have made so many mistakes if i had found you earlier!
In a nutshell we left the UK over 5 years ago and lived in New Zealand gorgeous place but we couldn't settle always wanted to try Australia, so here we are in Gold Coast unfortunately we got here as it was booming out of all proportion and now we can't get on the housing ladder hence we are moving to Perth. This is where we were emigrating originally 10 years ago!
We have found out that the government in Perth have put in $300.000,000 in the First start shared equity program which helps new first time home owners. Which means as long as you fit the criteria you can apply. This will help us to have our own home so we can feel we can settle. My husband has already been over to have a quick look around he has found some land in The Glades subdivision over in Byford south of Perth CBD where it is cheaper and in time will grow. Does anybody live in this region? Apparently this is going to be a huge growth area with primary schools and state schools and a massive shopping complex going in. Does anybody know what the private schools are like around this area
Look forward to chatting to all you guys

Just watched this Around Mandurah, local information guide to Mandurah - realestate.com.au
Now I was originally looking at Brisbane, Adelaide and central coast. Now I have some where else to research! It looks lovely?
