New members - Sydney location

Hello fellow Poms! We've been living in Sydney 13 yrs now (we're both from the East Midlands originally). Hubby is working away in Brisbane at the mo so keeping myself busy and thought I'd check out what other poms in Oz are doing. There doesn't seem to be that many English people in Sydney, it seems to me that they all avoid Sydney. I went to Perth last year and I heard someone with an accent like mine (northern-ish) and it was very strange but great to hear! It made me realise that I have missed being around English people.

We're in our late 30's with no children and still love living and working in Australia. I'm an Office Manager and my husband works for Oracle and we live very close to the City.

I will have a read through the postings to get a feel for what's going on and hope to be chatting to you all soon (I'm quite new to forums).

Hi

I`ve just been offerred a job in sydney and as long as the visa goes through OK will be out in August. Can you recommend some good areas to live and rent in Sydney which are near a beacj and not an hours drive away from the CBD?

Hi Daz

Suburbs very close to beach/CBD are: Bondi, Bondi Junction, Bronte, Clovelly, Randwick, Tamarama, Coogee. If you go to whereis.com - Unsupported browser and search any of these you will see where it is in relation to the CBD. Bondi Junction has a train/tube station, the rest rely on buses. Don't bother with Double Bay area, it's very expensive and there's no proper beach there.

For rental properties, checkout Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au and search rentals, nsw then these areas.
