Arrived-an update!

Hi all
It seems ages since I was last on here! 4 weeks here and we love it! We are now looking for a rental as we are in holiday accommodation for another 2 weeks and until we get somewhere permenant we can't get the kids into school (which they don't mind obviously!) we've bought a car and got tax file numbers etc.. We are looking to rent in port Kennedy or Warnbro as that is where we would like to buy eventually. The rental market seems very competitive though and we've been to some viewings where about 20 other people have showed up! Also we owned our house in the UK and it appears that lack of rental history goes against you somewhat. Its just another obstacle to overcome though so fingers crossed we will get something soon!

Hi all
We are in Secret Harbour at the mo. The rental situation is a pain 'cause a lot of the agents charge an 'option' fee if you apply for a property. This is 1 or 2 weeks rental which if accepted you get put towards your rent but if not you get back, however if yoou get accepted & then decide not to take a property then the owner gets the money . The rub is that you are limited to applying for 1 or at most 2 rentals'cause if you were lucky enough to get accepted for both then youcould lose one lot of money. So its a waiting game. We applied for a place on Tuesday last week & the agents still haven't let us know if we have got it or not which means we are limited to whether we apply again or not.( and of course the agents sits on our $320 along with probably 7 or 8 other applicants money as well) We are with one agent that doesn't charge the fee until you are accepted so we have applied for a place through them but the lack of retal history is making things hard.Never mins the suns shining and the skys blue so hey ho!

Hi all
How quickly thing can change eh! We appear to have bagged a rental after all. We offered the owner 6 months rent in advance in the absence of our rental history and we sign our lease on Monday! The house is a 4x2 and is in the area that we eventually would like to buy so it means we can get the kids in to school and get a bit more settled. What a relief!

your experience of trying to find rental sounds hard. did you have stay in hotels until you found something? how long were you in oz for before you found a place?

Hi Mandy
Any advice you can offer regarding rentals? We are looking at similar areas to you. Is there anything you would/wouldn't do with hindsight? Any tips appreciated!
