Spouse visa, how long do they last?

Hi,

I've been recommended by you lovley people to get my wife a spouse visa and add our two boys 5 & 7 to that, I can get my own aussie passport. How does this work and how long do they last?
Do they have to keep renewing this every so often or once that's done that's that, as long as we are married.

Hi Glyn

As far as i'm aware (and oops, i have been wrong at times) If you're entitled to an Oz passport, your boys should also be able to get one once your's is through.

As for your wife, you can apply for a spouse visa and once granted, she has to enter oz within a period of one year (from date of medicals i think), which then automatically validates the visa, extending it to 5 years. ie. she then has 5yrs in which to enter oz permanently.
