Just wondering, for the medicals, can we use our private gp as a reference for the panel docter or do we have to have a nhs gp as we have not used a nhs gp in over 2 years.Does it make a difference? please help. Thank you
For visa medicals, both the x-rays and the actual medical examination can only be done by x-clinics and doctors approved by the Australian Government. You can choose any of the authorised clinics and doctors but that is it as far as choice is concerned.
hi.
we had the choice of two in our area.one was a private practice, and the other was at the nhs hospital in the same city, which was at the local hospital, both were on the list of panel doctors, given by diac in our region, but it did not matter, as you will still have to pay for the medicals to be done regardless, weither it is a private practice or a nhs GP. hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, what I meant was will the panel docters contact my gp for information eg,medical history etc after doing the medicals, and can I give him my private gp's details as he deals with my family not the nhs docters. Will the panel docter want to contact my gp?Please explain the medical part to me for the skilled independant visa.
Thank you so so so much

It is unlikely the panel Dr will contact your GP,,if you have any medical conditions it is wise to take copys of specialst letters etc with you to the appoitment. If something is found and require 'further investigation' chances are youll be asked to see a panel specialst for their verdict.Hope this helps a bit

Mehiho,
The medical is pretty straightforward. You make your appointment with the panel doctor, turn up at the allotted time (with all the completed forms, which detail all of the interesting parts of your medical history from when you were knee-high to a grasshopper) and they relieve you of several hundred pounds, your clothes, half a pint of piddle and half a pint of blood (though not necessarily in that exact order). Time for a quick grapple with the nadgers (for men) or the breasts (for women) and send you on your way for a chest x-ray.
Providing you have no major defects, or have any major defects in recent history that might mean you will be a drain on the Australian medical system, no contact will be made with your own doctors.
As Cal has said, if you've had any significant repair work done, or any repairs are required, take letters from your specialists.
Dave
