Been here just over a week and had enough already....
But only of househunting.
There seems to be some real dross on the rental market at the moment around Brisbane (I'm currently looking around the Western suburbs). I've seen some real dives that have still had asking prices around the $500/w mark, some have had pools that Shrek would be at home in, including one that you really couldn't tell if it was a pond or a pool!
I don't think that I'm being particularly fussy, I just believe that I'm entitled to something clean and tidy for my $2000 per month, not somewhere littered with dead cockroaches and 20000 litres of green sludge in lieu of a pool. I want a cooker from this century, not the last or even the one before that. I don't want carpets that look like they have been used to line the bottom of a painter and decorator's van, nor do I like my bathroom fittings streaked with rust. I don't want to see wooden support structures that have had 75% of their width eaten away by white ant ("The owner has had it treated", said the agent. Yer, right).
Too much to ask??? I don't believe so.
Because there is such a shortage of rental properties on the market, it seems that agents think that they can get away with a pigsty for the price of a palace.
Whinge over.
As for the rest of it, how could anyone tire of beautiful blue skies and sunshine?

I am living in the western suburbs in Sinnamon Park in a red brick, low set detached property! We have 3 bed, 1 bath, no pool but large garden, corner plot. We paid $350,000 for ours. The properties are out there but you may not get EVERYTHING that you want. Sometimes you have to compromise!!!
I can recommend a good realtor in this area if you are interested!!!!!! PM me if you want the name.

"POZZIE" - HAPPY AND LOVIN` IT
Thanks for the reply, but now that I've whinged, it's all happened. We have found, and been accepted for, a place in Riverhills that ticks almost all our boxes and falls well within budget - 4 bed, 2 bathroom with aircon and pool on a reasonable sized plot and close to schools and shops in pretty good shape. The real estate agent was extremely helpful, and very pleasant too.
The phrase "you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince" seems appropriate, we've had to look through some real trash to find a decent example. But anyone else looking and following our example, take heart, there are some decent rentals out there if you are prepared to hunt around and rattle a few real estate agents' doors.

Surpised by your experience I am renting my house out in Qld no where Brisbane but the rental market is tight there too, my estate agent told me what needed doing to the house and to be honest I was surprised when they wanted the floor covering in the back sleep out recovering. However it was done. Many estate agents are keen to keep the place up to scratch and tenenats to look after the place. perhaps it is different in Brisbane . I hope you find something suitable, it can be disheartening.
