Exclamation pool covers in Oz

Does anyone have or know about the pool covers that you can walk on so they are 100% child proof, have just seen one in England and wondered if they do them there and can you have them fitted to an existing pool or do you need to have them fitted the same time as the pool.

This would just help us decide whether to purchase a house with pool or without.

Many thanks

Marina

Not looked into a pool cover yet for our pool - our pool is fenced off though.

hiya we have just ordered a pool cover but didnt find/see a walk on one.The fencing guidelines are very strict over here and all pool fencing has to have a council inspection.I was worried about having a pool with my 3yr old but the gates have childproof locks etc ,even my 8yr old cant reach the latch, fencing has to be above1.2 mtrs high etc.I will post on here if i come across one but have never heard of one, take care

Marina, pool fences are essential here, councils are very strict & you have to have the fence erected when the pool is installed, if you have an unfenced pool, you will be fined, if your water is too green to see the bottom, you will be fined, it as already been said, but even our 7 year old grandchildren can't open ours.
My son works in the pool industry, he hasn't heard of the ones you can walk on ?

Hi Marina

I know the type of cover you are asking about................ my brother had one fitted to his pool at Beldon.

It's made of something like shade-cloth material only stronger. Around the pool there are slots with metal inserts sunk into the ground. You have to then go around the pool and place a sort of tensioning gadget like a winch in each slot one by one; then you wind it up until the pool cover becomes tightly slung and doesn't sag. Apparently they are designed to hold the weight of a youngster and a large sized dog too.

My brother was forced to opt for that type of pool protection because it just wasn't feasible for him to erect a fence around his pool due to lack of space.

The latest idea down under is glass paneled fencing............. it looks quite sleek and is spot on from an aesthetic point of view. However; on the down side.......... it is very expensive compared to conventional pool fencing......... and another problem with it is the birds don't realise it's there and they are prone to fly straight into it sometimes which will leave a bit of a mess for you to pick up.

I have sent you some Council guidelines re swimming pool barrier requirements in WA.
