Nice post...but have you ever been over here because it ain't the Australia I am living in.
I am trying to help you here....come over here with the thoughts it has the same crime anti-social crap high prices etc..and you will settle much easier.
LOL Earlswood, you do hit the nail on the head sometimes!
no doubt earlswood and with you being there youve obviously a better perspective that anyone here in the UK and its good finding out the bits of info thats folk like yourself give but i think that it probably all depends on where people are moving from and where their moving to? and also your life chances, the chap that began the thread has obviously got a fairly good standard of living but some folk as they have expressed are leaving areas of high crime and anti social behaviour etc etc and are hoping to settle in an area with less of that kind of stuff. Now no doubt it is in Australia as it is everywhere but it cant possibly be everywhere as its not everywhere here either. My essay was very very lighthearted as i mentioned if youd read i mainly picked the good points which i have gathered from people on this site already in oz. I really enjoy reading points that people like yourself make as their constructive and helpful tho if not a little nerve racking sometimes but i find that they make me think more and thats good because it makes me more certain of the decision im making. i reckon that if we (those still in UK) take note of all the good and constructive bits of info we can gather and go with our eyes open not expecting it to be better than here then surely it cant be any worse? anyhow im off on hols sn so im in the excited lighthearted mood at present sorry!

Hi, welcome back to England. It sounds as though you are disillusioned with your time in Oz. I am not denying that England is a glorious country as far as views and places to go are concerned, but the way it is being run down at the moment does not give me any confidence that it will be a good place for my sons to try and make a
Hi Mandy
After reading this thread I agree with what you say and think you have hit the nail on the head. We are not going for the sunshine and the beaches. We are going because like you said the UK has changed so much and not for the best. I have educated children with degrees and sadly my daughter can not even get a job.
I know one thing when you work in Australia you are better thought of, in the UK this is not the case. You don't go to school you get incentives here, you do go to school and work hard you get nothing. If you know how to work the benefits system you are sorted and believe me I know. After working for NHS for 21 years and seeing the changes I would not say they are for the best.
My family are going to Australia to work and be appreciated for what we do. My children are not babies but educated people who deserve better and I feel the UK can not offer this anymore.
Jenny
Your childrens education will be worthless here I can vouch for that

Quite true, but some people only say negative things and lets face it, it cant be all bad, the same as it cant be all good. i think its called prospective! if someone has only bad things to say, you need to ask why? the person that started a thread went over to be with his girlfriend at the time (what love can do) did they break up? is he bitter? his reasons to be in Australia (at a guess) were for love not for his family, work or to better himself. i would say if you are young or single and want to travel Australia is not the place to be. England has great night life plenty of pubs, Europe on your door step what more could you want. but saying that alot of young English love back packing around Australia.

You are obviously reading the negatives as well as the positives which will make it much easier for you to make the move without any real shocks when you finally get here.
I lived and worked in London but came from the Cotswolds....chalk and cheese.

There are more positives than negatives on these forums.. I only put down what I honestly feel and have witnessed.
If people realise before they come that Oz has all the problems that the UK has they will find it easier to make the move.
Oz has good points which you can read about are all overthe forums but not many peopel like to talk about the negatives which I think does a disservice to those who really want to know Oz...warts and all.
not having a go at you, your right in what you say. people should know both sides its only fair, but its not all bad. im sorry i dont know you but from the last few posts i take it you are single? or in Oz with no kids? i have brought up kids in oz and the uk, and i wont let them play out in the uk i am to frightened of what may happen to them, i never felt that in oz. yes something could of happened to them but i think the chances are very low. being a parent is a life changing event everything you do is for your children and most people with kids put up with life being sh*t to keep there kids safe and happy. not saying oz is that. but i think for family it has a better way of life. for a single person i would advise to stay in England Enjoy what it has to offer, then when you have kids do the move.

Kids are as safe playing out in the UK as they are in Oz...the chances of your kids coming to harm in either Country is miniscule.
I witness more anti-social behaviour here than I did in the UK as I work part-time in a roughish bar and know what the aussies can get up to
They like a drink and like a fight.
Honestly now't to choice between Oz and the UK in terms of youth problems.
well thats unfair if you work in the roughest bar, try changing bars you may change your mind? tell you one thing went out in Oldham walked out at closing time fights, police batons drawn ive never seen that before in Australia but im sure you have (lol) and i think your very wrong in regards with children. come on other people who are reading this must agree with me????????????? Earlswood get out of perth its to far away, move to a new state and im sure you will change your mind i think you are like my dad (god rest his soul) enjoyed picking holes with everything to do with Australia, backed anyone playing against Australia but never wanted to leave! on his death bed he wanted burying in Australia as will you!!! i bet in 5/10/20 years time you will still be on this site telling everyone not to go!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND OUT. LOL

I have to say, (talking about the Gold Coast) I can't think of anywhere better to bring up children. It has just about everything a young family could possibly ask for. And more.
It would be weird to go somewhere where fights, drugs, booze and other social problems didn't occur. I myself have done my fair share of the naughties in my youth and have turned out just fine. It's a fact of life that most people will try these things. Only a handful actually continue it into their adult life. Problem I think with the UK is the fact that so many people are all crammed into small areas that trouble is multiplied.
Who knows maybe in 20 years time Oz will be the same if it continues growing like it is. But I would rather take the chance and give my kids the best childhood which I believe to be available in Oz. I know my kids will grow up just fine in England but for my sanity too I think Oz is the better choice for our family.
