Positive / Negative

I have now read the entire thread and I cant believe how some people get so upset just because someone posts something "negative" about Australia. I for one, certainly dont want to just hear about all the positive experiences in Aus. I left the UK 3 years ago now to live in Bermuda and all I heard was positive stuff before I arrived. I could not get anyone to say anything at all "negative" about Bermuda. But in hindsight it would of been good to have been aware of some of the negatives before I arrived so that I was aware and prepared. Yes there are negative points to living in paradise too and hearing negative aspects would not have stopped me going to Bermuda it would just have made me more reaslistic. I have however, had a great time here in Bermuda and am due to move to Sydney at the end of this year and this time I want to be more prepared. Everyone knows that there will be negative aspects but its good to have an idea of what they might be. So keep all experiences coming I want to hear about everything. I dont care how its posted, whether Gags sounds like he is speaking for all or not, I am interested in his experience. We all make our own decisions.

Hi everybody first time posting but not despondant,we are flying to brisbane 7th august, cant wait.Have had lots of laughs reading this thread, gags is obviously a very pleasent chap, hell id like to invite him/her to my leaving "do" . Unfortunately he will not appreciate my downright lowlife daily mail views therefore i will retract the invitation.Only kidding you are always welcome to talk. Kidding aside,me the missus n little Harry(4) will be in brisbane 8th august, still hopefull!

Hiya love - no idea what it does to the prices but you can order off US Amazon and get delivered to Oz (the addtional postaage doesn't look too bad).

If you try it, let us know whether it's any good - I'm coming to melbourne in 18 months and am a biiiiig reader - bit gutted to hear about the cost of books (they're blummin' expensive enough in the UK!!) - so if Amazon works I'll use it!!

thanks for the tip - haven't given it a go yet but probably will, I'll let you know how it goes. I've just been given another tip apparantly the Salvo's are great for getting second hand books so don't fear there may well be a solution yet. Ill keep you posted.

I personally look forward to a slower pace of life and am sick of feeling I am on a treadmill going flat out, yet not moving.
In a lot of ways I love the UK and have been looking at Oz for a couple of years but putting it off thinking things would improve in the UK, unfortunately they just seem to either stay the same or get steadily worse and so enough is enough.
I am from the North West and jobs and prospects here are on a downward spiral, a good friend of ours has just qualified as a nurse along with 42 others at that Uni….only 11 have managed to secure jobs and yet all the nurses you talk to say how short staffed the hospitals are…..mad..All down to money I suppose.
I was told by somebody who has been over in Oz for 14 years and loves it “you have to earn a wage….why not do it with the sun on your back for a change” sounds good to me…..I’m out in August for 3 weeks and can’t wait to go for good.
Good Luck……Pat
sounds like you've got a great approach and I'm sure you will have a wonderful experience. I love your friends philosophy and I can't wait for the sun to come out so I can experience it for myself - I best get on with the job search as well!

Best of luck and look forward to hearing more about your up coming adventure.

Yes, I was going to suggest the Charity Shops. I haven't bought a brand new book in years - except Harry Potter of course, roll on next week for book7!

Did you burn your passport?????

True gags what you say and very true you are,but the same can be said for people here.I used to live in Melbourne 9 years in all. back 17 now,but I want out of here. This country is going to the dogs and very quickly

I always had a better job there, seen and done a lot more.If rain, snow, gales, frost and a curry is your way of life good for you.

The Aussie way of life is better then here. After all I've been there and done it. Seems you'll get along fine back here.I run in to your sort of people every day. Just put them down wiil always make your type feel better.

Skilled people are leaving the UK and are being replaced by only very low skilled workers and refugees. And the goverment don't give a dam. They {goverment** seem to live in the same sort of inward thinking world as you

Well at least the Australians can call Australia AUSTRALIA not like here.

Did you burn your passport so you can't get back into Oz ?

HERE! HEAR!
Herbster

I really wanna know what it's really like - It all seems too urban to me, & like Gags, we're country folk, living in rural Northumberland presently, well-traveled & decently educated, but I don't want to live in a megalithic city, yet I can't see how my OH is going to find a job outside of one, even though he'd rather work on a farm doing what-ever, if it meant living in a decent location. I don't care if the sun shines every day or even if surf's up as often either, life can't always be a beach! There are aspects of our potential move that bother me & I'd love for locals to share. If we've gotta go, I think Tassie would be more suitable, but then to find a job, it'll probably have to be Victoria or SA - but Gags, are there towns/villages with jobs outside of the Huge Metro areas?? Where one might find work? OH commutes 45 mins to city presently & basically have chickens for neighbors, but the chance of ever buying our own home in UK is very remote which is main reason for giving this a try...

Anyone else with experience, I'd love to hear from you,
Herbster XOX

(He was in the sunshine all day, at The Alnwick Garden, admiring the roses & fountains!)

limey

True what you say Limey. Not all a bed of roses in Aussie. I like the bit about the Pedestal Toppling seems it happens all the time in the UK no matter where you live or what you do in life there's always some one to put you down. Seems like a race in life here to see who can put you down the fastes and who far. I get this day in day out in work myself even from people who have never seen the inside of a plane in their life! People here don't want you to good in life here.

I used to live in Melbourne (Croydon) in the past. Though I'll not be returning to live there I have often thought of it. Think This time I'll head to Perth if all goes to plan, and if it does it'll be about April.

Hve you been to the Wildlife Sanctuary out at Healesville? It's a must see! It's on the Maroondah Highway out past Lilydale and Coldstream. Don't forget about the Penguin Parade down at Phillip Island (take a coat now matter what the weather)

Life is what you make of it. Fight the world and the world will fight you! But Australia has a lot to offer, and I can't wait till I'm back being a part of it <<<<<<<<<< For good

Fred
