Hello from Mo

Hi Guys

Have not been on for a while apart from a few small posts, so thought it was time to say a proper hello.

We have settled in Mornington and brought a house, needs a bit of TLC but have painted and laid wood floorings, so it is starting to feel like home.

Have had quite a few wobberly moments, days when I have cried and cried with the need to go home, but I have kept going as the good days bring light releif.

What can I tell you I guess I came to Oz with rose coloured specticles and yes at first it was all a bit of a dream, then I guess real life steps in and takes over and I seemed to hit the gound with a bang.

Australia is not all I thought it would be, bad and good really, have made many friends but are disappointed I have not made friends with many Ozzie's, I am a very social person and left a lot of friends home in the UK, lot of them made through the kids school but here not through want of trying I am getting quite a complex that I have a sticker on my forehead saying pommie, proberly me just being sensitive but the chats in the playground have been few and far between.

The spiders now that is bad news, they like me I hate them, every corner I turn they are there staring at me and laughing there little socks off, but me and my worthy can of Mortein have the last laugh, sorry spiders lovers but they are swifty escorted off to spider heaven.

The children love Australia, they love school, they love the freedom they now have and really love the constant trips to the beach. :D

I am now in the process of becoming a mature student at the local collage to study for my AAT , hopefully this will give me renewed hope and get me in the work place to meet more people.

Well we are now up to eight months of living in Oz, as a family we have decided we will not give up but give it a two year trial, if for whatever reason after two years things have not settled then we will make our decisions.
Do not get me wrong I do not dislike living here, it has lots of good points but no-one can move to the other side of the world and adapt straight away.

Good Luck to all you guys still playing the waiting game.

A big hello from Australia, love and best wishes Mo x

Hi Mo

Thank you for such an lovely post. We are at the beginning of the process but it scares me that how ever much we want this I know I'll struggle if and when we get our visa. I suspect that however awful I think it's going to be at times, that actually, we really can't imagine just how tough it is until we are there experiencing a bad day first hand. It took me two years to settle after moving from London to the South Coast!

We are coming to visit in march - how about I bring wagonwheels? (or can you get them in Oz)

best wishes
Debbie

Hi Deb

It took my husband 15 years to get me to come to Oz, but I did it, it is not always what I thought it would be, but I am making the best of it, would never say anything to put others off but I do have bad days but also good days.

I still get scared now, just feels like such a long way away from home, but thanks to my good old faithful computer it makes it seem not so far.

You bring the wagon wheels, I will supply the wine, does that sound fair.

Take Care

Will you get to Mornington in March
Mo

Hi Mo

Nice post. Know what you mean about up and down days. We've been here 5 months and me and the kids have been on our own for 3.5 of those months!! Hubbie is working for his UK company based in Detroit and I've just spoken to him and told him enough is enough, to get his bum back here and get a job in the country we moved to!!

I've had a couple of tough days, made even harder by not having anyone to talk to in the house (bring out the padded walls soon!) The neighbours and our family are great but they have their own lives too and you have to just get on with it here, sympathy is not top of anyone's list.

I've made friends with mums from school and out of the 5 I've met, 4 are from the UK, most of the aussie mums do nod and say hello but won't come to talk to you, you have to go to them. Where we live, we've a big migrant community which is great cos at any one time, someone is feeling the same way you are!

Keep your chin up love, every day brings something different!

Jackie
