We are Geoff & Katherine, with three children Jazmin (15), Ysobelle (13) and Dominik (10). We currently live in Berkshire, UK.
Only a month ago the opportunity to work in Sydney arose, and since the job offer came through, our lives have been turned upside down, something I am sure you have all been through.
We have completed the 457 Visa application and currently waiting for feedback, medicals, x-rays etc.
In the meantime, our house is upside down as we sort through 20 years of junk, paperwork and memories. Plus redecorating before having new flooring throughout in order to sell before leaving the UK.
Very stressful
, but also very exciting
!!!!
There are so many questions that remain unanswered which I am sure we will post over the next couple of months.
Our planned leaving date is 23rd November.. ..whoohoo!!
Will be glad to receive any advice from people who have emigrated recently, especially what to do beforehand and what to do immediately after arrival.
Look forward to a fun blog (to part relive the stress)
Cheers

Hiya Hiya!
Been up to my neck in 50 odd names & emails to sort the primary sch canteen rota & then been volunteering at the High Sch canteen all week to clinch the job of canteen assistant! Woooo! Go Me! But the hours are fab! 8am -3pm (1.30pm on Tues & thurs...............gives me enough time to whizz to the supermarket!) Looks like i have the job, starting 28th April, but as yet it's not official.........i have to do the interview routine even though the manager wants me!
Definately counting my blessings about selling the house etc as i hear it's tough for people to get mortgages now. S & S (also from Maidenhead) have an offer on their house from their current tennants but the tennants can't get a mortgage as the comapnies have been limited on how much they can lend per month.
We're off to find a Queen sized bed base for our beloved matress tomorrow! ....and some chests of drawers.....after a 9am soccer with 'nik.
Intruiged as to what is in our shipment when it comes Tuesday.............i don't know what i have coming apart from the sofas & TV & a few other bits! People who've done this move say it's like Xmas!!!! We'll see!
Went to a youth festival in St Ives tonight.......for 12-24's. Saw some amazing stuff going on at the skate park & there was t-shirt painting & hat designing & a van with computer games etc....oh! & a suasage sizzle.....all for free, but other than that, i sat disctreetly on a bench & got jolly chilly as the sun went down (6pm)! It's not cool to be an adult , in a sea of teens!!!! Also, i recognised heaps of kids from working at the High Sch all week.......it felt like i was spying on them! I was glad when it got darker! Hope i didn't get bitten too much! Had a great chat with a police woman though! She'd been in the business 27 yrs & now does community policing (they still carry a gun & pepper spray!). She may pop in to see me at the High Sch Canteen as they do talks around the schools about various things. I really am meeting some very lovely people!
Jaz has a friend staying over tonight.........just woke her up from the sofa to get her into bed. Poor girl lives miles away from school (inner west) & starts the day on a bus at 6.45am & twice a week doesn't get home untill 10.30pm!!!!! I wouldn't dream of doing that! Perhaps that's the price you pay if you want a huge house for your money & a good school too?! It seems far from this cotton wool town if you go west.
Off to English Amanda's mum's house in Waroongah on Sunday, to celebrate Amanda's birthday (which is tomorrow). That should be interesting! Apparently her mother is a real goer............& more outgoing than Amanda............!
Oh! On the Hgh Sch social committee front, we're having a murder mystery night on 31st may. Doing a run through on 24th April at someone's house!!!! Sandra, the canteen manger (High Sch) is lending me some boots & a cowboy hat as it's set in the wild west in the 1800's! My nname is Butch Chastity & Geoff is Chief Breaking Wind! The mind boggles!!!!! We have to sort a costume!
Much love!
