And here ends the search for a job
Posted 03-12-2007 at 10:51 AM by The Broughtons
Well I've done it, I've joined my husband in the 'I've got a job and it's a contract one too' club. It didn't come about in the normal kind of way either.
I have been offered a teaching post at St John's Catholic Primary in Frankston. I didn't apply for a job there either so how did it come about you may ask? Well I did a days supply work there, really liked the school and thought the kids were great. I was booked that night to go to another great school but the following morning I had a phone call asking if I would go to St John's again. If I had said no that would have meant 3 supply teachers in 3 days so I said I'd swap schools so the kids could have had a bit of continuity. I had another great day and was advised by one of the teachers there to leave my cv with the head, they were in the process of recruiting and he had advised the head that he should consider me as well. I had an interview there on Thursday and was offered a job on Friday. I've also met the school's priest this evening and he has no problems with me joining the staff and isn't concerned about the fact I'm not a catholic either.
The job is a 4 day a week post - not quite what I was after but hey, it's a job and I really like the school. I will be covering different teachers on Tuesdays and then teaching a mixed grade 5 / 6 class Weds to Friday. The other days the class will be taught by the deputy principal. I will be the first person contacted if they need someone else on Mondays so chances are I'll be working a 5 day week quite a lot of the time.
Michael is still working hard learning the ropes as a motorcycle postie. He seems to be enjoying it, quite a lot to remember and a lot of concentrating but it's all new and a nice challenge.
Today was a very good day. My container contents were finally delivered. It was so nice to see boxes entering the house and the few pieces of furniture that we decided to bring with us being put into place. The house is currently so messy that I feel right at home, I did struggle on the tidiness front back in the UK but I have started afresh and once we get things sorted out we'll be nice and tidy again. Everything is away in the correct place in the kitchen and we managed to get a lot of the boxes unpacked. Some have been opened, things put away and then boxes merged for the time being. My Aunt was a godsend - she spent the day with me and apart from 15 minutes at lunch time we worked through the day. It was quite exciting really - opening boxes and finding things, memories came flooding back and I really enjoyed unpacking! I don't think 3 breakages were that bad either - 2 I can't figure out but the glass in one of my picture frames got broken through bad packing in one of the boxes.
In the midst of all the excitement came a couple of visitors. I was just putting something in my bedroom when a spider decided to go for a walk across the floor - now I've been doing my homework and I could identify that one as a wolf spider. I caught him in an empty container and left it to be disposed of later. Michael had to go one better though - he found a nice big beastie with a very round and shiny brownish/black body in the garage, caught it and brought it in the house to show me. I really didn't need to see it, I was still congratulating myself on not just spritzing mr wolf spider with a large dose of baygon.
Well we shall see what tomorrow brings - I do need some work but if there isn't any I shall just continue ploughing through the boxes.
