    1. Preparing the Work Assessment.

Our first steps were preparing the paperwork for Shaun's work assessment. He had to try and get references from all his previous employment over the last 12 years. The references were actually more in the way of a statement describing what tasks he did and giving examples of how he accomplished these tasks. These had to be written up by ourselves and then signed by someone who either supervised him or worked with him.

This turned out to be quite a task and not one that Shaun was keen ...

Once we had decided we were going ahead with trying to get to Australia, I started researching what we needed to do to get a visa and how to apply for it. One of the websites I'd had the quick assessment on offered free full assessments for UK residents, so I filled in the long winded on-line form and sent it in. I got a message back saying that they only offered free assessment to UK residents and I would have to pay to have one. Funny, last time I checked England was in the UK. Feeling rather ...

Had John Mason round for a shipping/storage quote today. Thankfully our stuff fits into a 20 foot container – apparently 80% ...

So after weeks of waiting for our acknowledgement (I think that it came back over 6 weeks later than they'd said it would - I didn't have any nails left by that point) we were expecting not to hear back from immigration until next year at the very least. We only just sent off for our UK police checks cos those take quite a while and yesterday OH gets a letter asking us to submit our meds and police checks by early Jan at the latest!! Before I stumbled across PiO, it was quite frustrating not really ...

    5. How it Started

Well, now that we have had our visas granted, I feel like I can start telling our story without it necessarily having a bad ending.

I have been asked a few times "why Australia?" and to be honest I don't really have the perfect answer. For a long time now I have had a yearning to live there and I can't be certain, but it may have started with an old family friend moving back there, to his country of birth. My parents managed to visit him about 13 years ago and when ...
