Spring in Melbourne

Spring has arrived and I look forward to it as the buds come on the trees. We have a lot of European species of trees and the main reason we have these is because they shade in the summer and lose their leaves in the winter letting the sun through to the house. We have placed them so they shade and we can walk in the garden and stay in the shade when its hot. Gum trees are lovely but we keep them away from the house as they are prone to lose branches when its very windy. Never park under a gum tree when its windy, of course that is a silly statement for me to make as its very difficult to avoid them, but they are a nuisance that way. When its very windy here and the westerly blows over from Mornington and I mean blows I worry when driving down Coolart Road as you wonder will a tree branch fall or a tree.
My avatar is part of our garden and the Golden Elm is particularly beautiful. We are fortunate to have a block large enough to have these large trees. Also because we are on a septic system that is we have no sewerage our trees survive the drought quite well.
We are presently hemmed in by road works they are doing a roundabout at one end and the road is closed off and fixing one at the other end of the road we have to go out on, wonder whose idea that was.
I love living here in Somerville as its such a lovely small town and close to everything. The new shopping centre is nearly finished and opens on 30th October so looking forward to that will not have to travel to Frankston or Mornington to go to Target now.
Anyone who reads this please feel free to pm me if you need any info on the western side of the Peninsula which I think is the superior side with all the farms and horse studs, wineries etc.
