Hello! Long time no speak!
Posted 22-05-2008 at 12:01 PM by Megss
According to nearly every man in the country there is something important happening on the TV tonight, something to do with a bunch of puffs, a ball, and 80 thousand of Britain’s most shameful invading Moscow. Therefore I am in my bedroom with the laptop listening to Bob Marley, and thinking about our fast approaching trip to Oz!
It will be my first ever visit, so I am really excited, and also quite nervous, as if I don’t like it I’m going to have to do some extremely serious thinking! If I’d known we would be able to go so soon, I wouldn’t have agreed to anything until after I’d seen the place with my own eyes, but I didn’t think we’d be going till next year and I couldn’t keep everyone hanging like that! So lets just hope its love at first sight!
I’ve only ever flown long haul once and that was to Canada, which was only 10 hours. I found it absolutely unbearable, I didn’t sleep a wink and I almost murdered the guy behind me; who in his fear of getting DVT was doing foot exercises on the back of my chair the duration of the flight! I have a short temper at the best of times, luckily my husband noticed me turning round and glaring at the guy and huffing loudly, and graciously offered to swap seats with me for the last hour. It was a luxury holiday, I had inherited quite a bit of money (all gone now!) and had spent £5k on a no expense spared luxury trip to Whistler – to give you an idea of the class of hotel we stayed in, lets just say Pamela Anderson was staying in the same hotel! Need I say more?! But seriously, I had never experienced service like it, and doubt I will again! Unfortunately though, to say I don’t deal with sleep deprivation well would be the understatement of the century. We just rested for the first few days in a hotel on Vancouver waterfront, but I think an exorcism may have been more effective!
So as you can imagine I am anticipating my first few days in Australia to be rather unappreciative, I will most probably instigate a huge argument about something trivial and cry and say I want to go home. The one bit of hope I have is that I did spend the two days before the flight to Canada on the toilet, excreting large volumes of brown liquid from both ends with alarming velocity. I present this as more evidence that perhaps I was not Jet Lagged, but infact Possessed.
Luckily the first 5 days I am spending in a hotel in Mooloobala, and will be relatively solitary as my husband will be attending business meetings in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. However, I was a little disappointed to see the temperature in Queensland drop a bit lower than I thought it did in winter, I was hoping to do a bit of sunbathing by the pool, before we fly down to Sydney for our little reccie of the Illawarra region, which is currently colder than it is here in the UK.
It will be nice to see Brisbane and Mooloobala, but I’m not too fussed about that part of the trip – its just going to be a bit of R&R for me. But I absolutely cannot wait to get down to New South Wales to see where we’re going to live! We are renting a small holiday cabin on the beach at Bulli, if its anything like it is in the pictures then it will be just like having our very own little Australian beach house! It comes with its own little kitchen, so we’re going to go to the nearest supermarket and do a shop for the week, and then cook our own meals, so that we can see what it would be like to be living there. I expect we will eat out once or twice but we’re on a really tight budget so nothing too fancy! I want to get the train to Sydney one day so we can imagine what it will be like living there are visiting our nearest big city, and we also want to drive down to Narrooma if we have time, as we’ve heard its beautiful. Other than that I just want to drive/walk around the area taking lots of pictures and getting to know it as best we can in such a short time! Ooooh I can’t wait!!!
I expect i’ll have a lot to write about when we get back, and maybe even some pictures! Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other!
