18th December
OMG cant believe it, got THE following email today.....
I am pleased to report that your student visas have now been granted.
I hope your studies go well and you enjoy your stay in Australia.
Yours sincerely,
OH Yeah! Oh Yeah! OH Yeah! I thought I would scream out loud, but I just felt sort of numb, my husband had a permanent grin from ear to ear that would beat any druggie who been chuffing on a ton of marihuana……I looked at him and felt his smile rub off on to me as the corners of my mouth slowly turned upwards and i began to join my husband with an equally insane smile….. We told the children……they were excited and couldn’t wait to get to school to tell there friends……we couldn’t wait for them to get to school……After the sudden urge to stand on the roof tops and shout it out I thought who should we ring first to share our excitement with……..My mum, Nah, she will cry! My daughter, Nah, she will cry! My best friend, Nah, she will cry! ……..Ah ha……. We know our fellow conspirators, John and Nicky, they will be ecstatic for us! (His family have there visas too, and are just waiting for house sale) We then proceeded to go down the list ringing every one who we thought would be really happy to share the news with us……..We shouted down the phone to one friend...."Yeah we got our visas" he replied, "congratulations, I got a master card".....ha ha ....
The rest of the morning was spent trying to book flights…what a nightmare it seems that all and sundry are flying to Australia during January…..Hubby reminded me ….I told you we should of booked them before we got the visas…..yeah! yeah! And if we hadnt of got the visas……………Well, some three hours later….Results….well that’s if you can call a flight with United Airlines (who, I hear myself ask) and a stop over of six hours in San Fransisco a result…..well there you go…..oh ….idea…..maybe I could go shopping….Hubby reckons that is not an option…….If we left the airport it might take us four hours to get back in, with Security…..Hmm…. the mind boggles…It wouldn’t have anything to do with spending all his money would it? Nah! He hasn’t got any left now….after all the costs of moving to oz!
Well, Flights sorted, back to the phone……My mum first…….She was really happy for us…..at least I think that was what she was saying through the deep sobs….”Oh god mum, don’t cry” I said fighting back my tears…..she said “Im coming to wave you off from the airport”…..I said “oh god, no way mum, you cant do that I will be in bits”……my hubby is piping up in the back ground she just wants to make sure your really going…and laughing his head off! ….Ha Ha…..Next came my eldest daughter, tried to get her to come over on some pretext but said she couldn’t tonight as she had other commitments so had to tell her on the phone as was worried in case she heard from someone else….There was no easy way….”Well zo, ive got some sad but good news”…..”You’ve been accepted” she interrupted……..i managed to burble a weird groggy “Yeah” as I felt the lump in my throat and the pain in my chest as if someone was crushing me…..”see, I knew you would” “When you going” oh god the tears started to form…..i couldn’t speak…..and dried up……I felt the presence of de ja vous as she said “Oh god mum, don’t cry” while fighting back her tears….. What is it with bloody mums!…..she said she would come round tomorrow night….and I agreed saying I would put the champers in the fridge….
The afternoon ended in my youngest daughters School Christmas Fayre…Iots of congratulations from teachers and parents…My, doesn’t news travel fast…. My daughter showed me a beautiful book she had been given with lots of lovely things written in by all her friends and teachers… I struggled reading it…I choked up again the tears fell freely this time…It was so lovely….Brittany said she had cried at school today with her friends………. We opened a bottle of Champagne and we all hugged, and toasted, “Here’s to our exciting venture and the unknown in Australia”…… -x-

So exciting to read!! Hope you finally got some sleep....
We are looking forward to posting something similar in a couple of month's time!! By the way, United Airlines are a hugely well-known and respected US airline. I would happily fly with them, and how wonderful to do a SanFran stopover, instead of the usual Singapore/Dubai route!! Good luck, Rachel x |
