We want to move to oz! help!

Posted 04-05-2008 at 07:45 PM by katestar2709
Hi Everyone!
Myself, my husband and 2 young children are really intersted in coming over to oz. I am 24, and my partner is an engineer and he is 33. our girls are 3 years and 3 months of age.bMy partner will be looking for work as an engineer. I will eventually wish to study as a nurse.
It is a crazy decision i know, and we need some advice. Firstly of where to move to? We have never been but have been told that it is lovely. We dont want extreme heat, and not too expensive.
We aree wondering what rent prices are like, food and lifestyle in general.
One fear i have is the flight,as i suffer with ear pressure problems. can anyone help with this?
We also are not sure if we need to take a fair amount of money? and how long do visa,s take?
we are desperate for info!! nervous but very excited!
Id welcome any help!
Love the site!

use the main thread which is right for your question as more people will read it. All I know is perth gets very hot in summer & winters are like our summers. money wise oz is expensive but it is down to you & your own circumstances.
Good Luck Eugene

hi, You and your husband are young and your husband is in engineering, that covers a wide range. jseek.com and seek.com may give you an idea about work.My husband is also an engineer in the coal mines. The mining indusrt here is booming and not just coal. However some of this work is out of the wayWA is fly in fly out and shifts vary. Townsville QLD fly in fly out but you can live in Brisbane as your base. The Bowen basin Mackay to Rockhampton area, many coal mines here, we worked out in QLD for years good money but I didn't like it much.(more of that reason later if your interested)Hunter Valley NSW, Muswellbrook, Newcastle region. There is some in South Australia too. We are in the Illawarra region south of Sydney , my husband first Aussie home 30 years ago and he loves the place and so do I. They also have mines and are desperate for engineers. I think you will find loads of information on the Illawarra in the NSW forum. It depends what kind of life change you want for your family. Any questions just ask away. very Good Luck to you.
