I have to tell you that sleeping in an (almost) new double bed has a little je ne sais quoi over the joys of a camp bed. Worries about rapidly advancing arthritis have faded away with a comfy bed, and no paddling across a field in the middle of the night (earwigs in your wellies at four in the morning anyone?).

The memory lane version of our holiday is now full of healthy fresh air and exciting outdoor cookery. The outdoor cookery was mostly the 'pub meal for two' variety so husband has put on two kilos in a fortnight. There were lots of stops for tea and cake as well. Of course we would have been drinking ice cold beer if the weather had been better, and everyone knows there are no calories in beer as long as it's ice cold.

The law of the lettuce leaf held let me down too - apparently there are calories in food that shares the plate with anything green. Gastronomic austerity beckons, what with only six kitkats left from the emergency camping chocolate box. We have to eat them all or they might go off, then frugal menus beckon. Quite convenient really, we have to pay for the flights somehow.
