First blog, here goes!!

Posted 12-09-2007 at 01:31 AM by Rachel83
Hi everybody!

Well here goes with my first blog ever!!

I'm lucky enough to be already living in Australia with my lovely boyfriend. We met while working on the same cruise ship a year ago now, when he left the ship in January I was gutted that I had to stay without him. First thing I did when I got back to the UK at the end of Feb was to get myself a visa (Working Holiday Maker's) and book myself a flight!

I landed in Sydney in the middle of April and just love it here. We're renting a place and everything's great.

Now the big hurdle is going to be how do I stay when my visa expires in April 08! The plan is to apply for a de-facto spouse visa, and there are a few options - apply while still on my current visa, go back to the UK and come back on a tourist visa to apply, or go back to the UK and apply from there (my least favourite option!!). So we'll see, I'm currently seeking advice, but going to do it without an agent to save ourselves a good couple of grand!

I'm happy here, Australia is beautiful, and I just hope it all works out.

Well, that wasn't so bad for my first blogging attempt! Strange to go on about myself, but good to share!

Rachel

Hi Haze
Yes I would definitely recommend writing a blog, very therapeutic!!
I've not been to Perth yet, although I would love to go. At the moment I've not been far out of Sydney due to financial restrictions having just settled in a new apartment, we have lots of furniture etc to buy! I do have a holiday booked in Brisbane (where Dan's family are from) and Airlie Beach in November though as my parents are coming over for 3 weeks and I want them ot see as much as possble. Can't wait!
I figure I have plenty of time to see everything, would also love to see Melbourne as I hear it's good for wine bars haha! :)
How did the x-rays go? Well I hope. Good luck with it all!

Hi Alan
We are in the process of going. We have used 'thinkingaustralia'. Our agent is a lovely lady called Heidi. Her boss is Darrell Todd. He is a great bloke, straight talking, no bull kind of person. He gives a free 1 hour assessment face to face with you and gives you great advice too. Good luck
