wakeboard1980
7k will only go so far mate, but I'm sure plenty would have gone with less. Where are you planning to go first? Enjoy yourself but don't go mad until you find work. Where will you be staying to start with?
Garreth Peat
Cheers, I'm starting in brisbane gonna do the hostel route but ill be looking for work ASAP
wakeboard1980
7k will see you through for a bit, just make sure you always have a bit for any 'emergencies' either cash or a credit card. Have fun
xxlornaxx
thats a good amount to be starting off with, get looking for work and spend carefully, i would be comfortable setting off with that
Jacob Roberts
You have more than enough, mate. I am heading off with £2000 cash and £2000 separate to buy a car. I'm going mid-July and I'll be in Brisbane to start off too. I'd be pretty keen to meet up with some new people. PM me if you're interested buddy. For the record, I think we are advised to take about $5000 to start off with. At the current exchange rate you're looking at taking almost 3x that. Alix Fisher
Eeeek you make me feel nervous! I am going with around £2000 ($4000) and I've already booked 10 nights in Sydney like you I plan to get a job after we have left Sydney and my boyfriend is coming (who will also have around $4000/$5000) but I still don't think I will have enough? My parents are giving me money each month as well so I'll have that.. I guess it's supporting ourselves until we have a job? Not to mention all the things I want to do in Sydney lol!! I Do plan on working as soon as I get over too but all advice is appreciated I don't think anyone can say whether you can string that out to last a year. But it will last as long as it lasts, keep enough for a flight home, check your bank balance frequently and if you get short then you leave. Guest51810
Its quite interesting to hear different peoples funds. Would be good to hear from people who have went over with around 3k and managed fine

Guest51810
If I go in September I'll likely have £2.5k. If I do my backup plan then I'll have quite a lot more

AimeeKnowles
Is it true they can turn you away also if you don't have the sufficient funds? i hope not!!!
Garreth Peat
Is it true they can turn you away also if you don't have the sufficient funds? i hope not!!! Yeah it's true I think you need $5000 or £3000 but that's only if they check you and ask for proof
Alix Fisher
From what I have read you can have less than the amount providing you can support yourself by either a job or if you do get checked you can say your parents will help you with funds or friends etc. I am going with $3000 which is £1500 and my bf will be taking the same. I wouldn't worry too much about money as jobs are easy to pick up especially farming or bar work!
Guest51810
Yeah of course it's true since it's the legal amount but you aren't likely to be checked. It's also the legal amount because anything less then you're more at risk of ending up running out of money

Alix Fisher
I've got my flight booked for 10th September, we are staying in Sydney for 10 nights then heading up to QLD in the hope to find farm work, I'm sure we can make $6000 (maybe more) last 2-3 months! Have you got anything planned yet Aimee?
