Guest karan guest
I am travelling to Australia on a one year working visa, I have booked a one way ticket as I am not sure how long I will be staying for, I have tried to arrange insurance but as I do not have a return ticket I am unable to obtain insurance is there any insurance company that I can get my insurance from without a return ticket. Guest
Try STA travel. They have UK offices. Not saying they will cover you but they are backpacking/student specialists. I'd always get an open return so you know you have a flight back at least. Doesn't cost that much more tbh. Or an onward flexible RTW ticket or some such. lauradarlin
Oh dear, I've done this too and am just starting to look into insurance, is it a real nightmare??? Think this may unsettle the mother! When are you off Karen?
TheGrahams
We have always got one way tickets for our many long travelling trips. TBH we never bothered with insurance for our first few trips, but when we did we used Atlas. Can't remember the exact details, but they do a lot of different packages. Guest MM Marc
I have used worldnomads and Endsleigh on WHV to Australia and Japan. Pay attention to the types of work covered. Some policies cover you to work upto 1.5m off the ground or from a ladder or they specifically include farm work. Some exclude construction work so read the bit of fine print that relates to work. Near the bottom you can see what a routine ride in an ambo will cost you. Choose you insurance policy carefully! http://www.ambulance.net.au/content.asp?id=

Andrea
Hi Karen, I know that DownUnder travel insurance will cover you on a one way ticket, we found this out just before we came out here in Feb. They were also the cheapest and you can have the insurance for as long as you want. We have got it for six months as we dont know how long we will be out here, but can just log in online to extend it every month if need be which is good. If you come home early I think they will refund you for what you havent used too. We looked at many backpacker insurance sites, but they were silly expensive and once they knew we were going on a one way they said it wasnt valid (something you don't find out unless you ring them so be careful) Hope this helps! Andrea.
lauradarlin
I've contacted STA and they're able to insure me without a fixed return date. They have a 24 month policy for just under £1000 and a 12 month one that can be extended should you want to stay longer or travel elsewhere before returning home. Seems like a lot so I'm looking around but as MM Marc says it's important to get the right one!

guvnor
im not sure to be honest ... it was cheaper for me when i flew over in early feb to get a return than a 1 way ticket. i.e the furthest i could book the return was oct 23rd but i can change this to feb for a fee and worst case the seat difference if theres no cheapo seats goin which i confirmed with emirates (if your on a whv i wouldnt book it one way imo) there is a section that covers all the fine print with exceptions etc on the site ..maybe drop them a quick email via there site and ask... then u have it in writing if they do backtrack on it . lebourvellec
I used DownUnder Insure - I did have a return ticket but was open return ticket to New Zealand, Fiji and LA, with no idea when I was returning. They will insure you worldwide cover if you spend most of your time in Australia and New Zealand.
