Hi there, hourly rate is more or less the same as the UK. Many hospitals will pay for your visa/flights/medicals if you are going on a 457 visa-but you are contracted to stay with that hospital/company usually for around 2 years. This is a temporary long stay buisness visa, many hospitals support your appliaction for permanent residency if you wish to get that but after a set amount of time (should be in your job contract as different hospitals have different time span for this). There are good and bad points to this visa; you get everything paid (but usually have to be with the company for a certain amount of time to keep the money i.e 18 months), but then you are stuck with the same hospital if you hate it (although it is possible to get another hospital to take over your visa once you are here) and you must work full time on this visa.
There are other visas where your skills are assessed and you come out and work for who you want and where you want, but i dont believe there is any finacial assistance with this, also it usually takes longer.
The 457 visa can take 2-3 to complete process.
Best to go have a read on the australian department of immigration website as they explain all in detail. Good luck!

Hi
I did reply to nursing thread but incase you missed it, Queensland Nursing Council are interviewing in UK May-June in London/Birmingham/Glasgow. Details in RCN bulletin, they offer a relocation package.
Apply on Nursing: Queensland Health: WorkForUs with Cv and put in expression of interest.
Let us know how you get on.
Brenda
ps we applied without an agent and if you are a 'straight forward case' its fairly easy for a Nurse. There are lots of helpful people on here !

Hi there. I am a nurse and am moving to Brisbane in August. I am moving over with a nursing agency based in Queensland. You can either go on a long contract with sponsorship or on a working holiday visa for 12 months which I'm doing. I have paid about £500 for registration, visa and medicals. The company I'm with do pay for your flight though which is saving £600. There are lots of advertisments in the nursing times and on the net. I'm going with Nurses Link.
