Last night, when I returned from work, there was a huge parcel waiting. When I opened it I couldn't believe my eyes! Our neighbours had put together a "First Australia Day Welcome Pack"! They had obviously gone to a lot of trouble, not to mention expense and put a great deal of thought into this act of kindness. The parcel contained a beautiful photographic book of Australia, sun screen, a flag, various stickers and transfers, a fly swat (!) Castlemaine XXXX, recipes for Australia Day food, a cap, a bag - the list goes on.
It is the nicest thing any neighbour has ever done and I am quite overwhelmed. They even wrote a letter welcoming us to Australia and so on...
Without minimising their generosity, this is the kind of stuff that neighbours do over here! I hope you are all lucky enough to have similar experiences when you get here. Somehow though, I don't think you will need luck - these acts of random kindness seem to be a way of life!
