Thanks for your comments. I agree that Ballarat is a well kept secret ... did I forget to mention it is built around the lovely Lake Wendouree?
The main street is a bit special too.

They'll have the high speed rail link to Melbourne running in a few months for the commuters. That will make the place even more attractive to those looking to move outside of Melbourne.
