( our other option is to go in on a 457 sponsored and then apply for PR after 2 years btu i cant find the criteriafor that visa either, do they still have catagories and points etc or is it automatic if you have worked there for 2 years on a 457 you can get a PR?)

Hi,
I am no expert but my understanding is that after completing your training in order for you to gain the points for working in your trade you need to have completed 36 consecutive months out of the last 48 for the visa application.
When applying for vetassess I think you have to have two years work experience under you belt.
So in answer to your question I really aren't sure, my oh completed three years of training when starting out in his trade many moons ago.
