Hello Kitty is on a distinguished road
I may be biased but I think Melbourne is a wondeful place to live. It didn't win the 'worlds most liveable city' for nothing.

Melbourne is a vibrant, cultured, cosmopolitan city with lots going on all the time. There are great restaurants, arts, lots of festivals and events. It is the type of city you need to get to know to really appreciate it's many facets. The weather is good in my opinion. Yes, there are four distinct seasons but it is much better than UK weather and warmer in general.

If there are just the two of you I would choose to live close to the city so you can be in the most vibrant part of the city where there is always something going on. Port Melbourne is an example of a suburb which is only 5 km's from the city but next to the beach. There are bike paths and walking paths all around and a nice street (Bay Stree) cafes, shops etc. There is a new development called Beacon Cove which has lots of apartments, townhouses etc.
