Am I doing the right thing?

Heart on sleeve time. I have applied for a visa despite the fact my 'boyfriend' who is 5 years my junior at 49 years old and after 14 years together is not coming with me. I am leaving him behing so that I can be with my son, daughter in law and granddaughter of 1 year old in Oz.
His parents are elderly (almost 80) and I can fullly understand his decision not to move in case something happens. Am I being a self-centred, selfish c-w? To be totally honest, he deserves much better than me and I hope that when I move on he will also move on and can find a woman that will give him what he really needs, i.e. a family. We have never lived together therefore is it really such a big deal or all is it in my head?
All opinions wecome!
