Hello and welcom to PIO. We just did our state sponsorship with WA. The rumour that you need a large amount of money is totally untrue. The minimum is $25,000.00 AUD. The only reason for this is that you won't be eligible for unemployment when you first move down and they just want to make sure that you can support yourself until you find employment. I too had heard rumours of really large amounts of money being required. Being the women that I am I need to hear the truth, so I actually called down to Perth and spoke with their state immigration department. The amount is only around $25,000.00.
Have you done your online application with the WA sponsorship yet?? I am assuming that you will be applying for skilled state sponsorship??
It is not taking very long. I applied online and received a positive approval from them within 10 days. They will give you 3 areas to choose from to live and work in. Lucky for us they picked Peel (Mandurah and area) as one of the areas and it is nice and close to Perth, but cheaper housing.
Once you receive a positive approvial, I suggest that you go online straightaway and do your 176 Visa application. I got my approval letter from WA on Thursday May 15/08 and proceeded to apply online straight away. I got a TRN number immediatley and they also took the $2050.00 straight away. I just got an email yesterday (1 day later) from the Adelaide Skills Processing Centre who have requested all information from us including our meds and police checks. The DIAC has to issue 6000 visas before the year end (which is June 30/08). I don't know if this means we will infact get our visa granted sooner rather than later, but the speed as which the ASPC wants our stuff, it sure seems that way.
If you need anything further, please contact me. I do know that the online forms can be a little daunting, but it is not that hard really. I have done all of this on my own and have not used an agent.
Cheers
Karen
