Hello Mark

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Mmmmmmm. I'm not the right person to try to help you, my friend. I am not a migration agent and my knowledge of the I.T. industry is absolutely zero. I don't kow what a BTEC is either. Is it a degree or is it a diploma of some sort?

How old are you, please? I've a suspicion that your best best might be a Working Holday Maker Visa if you are under 30? Please see here:

Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417)

There is also a visa called an Occupational Trainee Visa, about which I know zilch apart from what I've just read:

Occupational Trainee Visa (Subclass 442)

You might well not qualify for this thing anyway. I guess that a third possibility might be to seek employer-sponsorship, but do be aware that the rules for the 457 visa specifically say that it is NOT available for the purposes of an appenticeship:

Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457)

I wiykd suggest tat your best bet might be to pay Peter Chiam a very modest fee for having a chat with you and discussing the possibiliies. Peter trades as ptlabs and he is an IT wizard as well as a Registered Migration Agent. Because he is in Sydney, Peter probably also has a very solid understanding firstly of your own training needs, secondly of what is available in IT in Oz, and thirdly whether there is a visa that could be made to fit the bill.

Peter's website is here:

Ptlabs Consulting

Peter would undoubtedly be able to cut through your situation - and wishes - like a hot knife through butter and come up with the best suggestions for your situation, plus he would be able to guide you bout the dos and don'ts of preserving a possible pathway to emigration to Oz for you, in case you should turn out to want that once you ahve spent some time there.

This is the best I can do, I am afraid. I really don't want to risk dabbling in your question because my instinct is that you need proper help with it, which I do not know enugh to be able to provide.

Best wishes

Gill
