Lay by is a bit like buying items from a catalogue as in weekly payments (although we dont have them here in oz) say theres a dress at $150 that you like - you ask them to lay buy it - put a deposit down say of $10 and you have by a certain date to pay it off - but you do not get the item untill its paid - to be honest i have never done this and would rather just get the credit card out sometimes if things are on offer it will state no lay buy or rainchecks,
