Welcome to POI hope you will enjoy it as much as me!!!! I haven't been to NZ but I have lived in Oz and visited there twice last year. If you like seasons then chose Melbourne.
You really need to go for a visit yourselves to make a good decision for you as everyone has different tastes. We are going to Melbourne but to be honest we prefer Queensland although it is quite hot most of the time so wouldn't suit your hubbie.
