Lifeline telephone counsellor. There are Lifeline offices all over Australia and they provide a 24 hour telephone counselling service for people who are feeling suicidal or even just in need of some "counselling". There are also peripheral volunteer opportunities depending on the state - in ACT here we also have volunteers who run the most amazing bookfair in Australia (plug!!!!) which runs for 3 days and sells thousands of donated but high quality books at really cheap prices.
