I had a look around collingwood not a place I would like to be late at night.

South yarra is the closest and probably best for transport.
Not sure if there is a direct service to royal Melbourne north of the city
Trams 55 , 59 , 19 run close to the royal Melbourne.

Trams run about every 10-min at peek times but take twice as long as trains.
There must be at least a half dozen trains to the city per hour.

For a single zone ticket cost’s $6.50 which can be used on the trains or trams.
All day in zone one.
You can get weekly tickets which work out cheaper.

I would estimate 30min on bike it is not the distance it is the fact you have to stop
At every junction & wait for traffic.
