Keep your spirits up & if you're feeling a bit down take trip to the Gold Coast for some sun.
Weather usually starts to improve in September and then it's generally good until the following May.
We made the move to Melbourne last June and even tho it was the start of winter it certainly wasnt depressing. The winters dont get any where near as cold as they do in the UK. Yes it did rain but when it did it was mainly at night so we were able to go out and about without having to take an umberella!! I can honestly only remember 1 day in winter last year when it rained constantly and we didnt go out. The sun seemed to be out most days and there were even days during the winter where the temp was in the 20s and we went to the beach with some Auzzie friends that we met.

When we got here the Auzzies were starting to wear winter coats, hats etc however we were fine with just our light weight jackets on.

To be honest for us this was the best time to start our new life as it was far easier to climatise to the weather slowly than it would have been had we come over when the temps were in the 40's.

Hope this helps

P.S Having said all of the above its really cold here at the moment so come winter I think for us winter coats will be a must due to the fact that you climatise to the hot weather so quickly!!
