As someone has said here already, I've been called worse! Pom will not offend me in any way. And if someone tries to offend me by calling me a pom I have a whole host of names to use in reply!
Historically, POM stands for Prisoner of Millbank - the main prison from where convicts were sent to Oz from. It was written on the boats I do believe.
