My daughter had the same anxieties (she was 11 at the time of the move), The principle of the school set her up with a pen pal, so she'd 'know' someone (so to speak) when she arrived. My son was 7 and took to Aus like a duck to water, in fact my aussie neighbours say he must have been an Australian in a previous life. You really can't go wrong for sport - the only problem will be fitting everything in. Both my children settled in well, Alex is still in contact with the friends that meant most to her, via msn, webcam etc., (a good investment). Within a short time, she said she didn't miss people quite as much as she thought she would. There are always new people starting at school, and Alex said the boys were just as friendly as the girls.

Good luck
