What are you looking for? We have the most beautiful beaches, dolphins, whiteman park is brilliant for young and old alike. We don't have the theme parks of QLD, but we'll go over east to do that with the children for a holiday. My two are content with visits to Adventure world here in Perth. For everyday stuff - parks and beaches are plentiful - point heathcote in Melville has a great play area, wirless Hill too (these are near me). We've been to Bussleton and Yallingup which are beautiful, but by all acounts so is Dunsbourough, Albany and all those places further south. My kids love Freo and the maritime museum (I like the market!!)

We find it is quite laid back here and personally don't feel that we are isolated or remote. Don't know how old your two are, but mine are 13 and 8 - my daughter goes horseriding once a week, plus sometimes does trekking at weekent, my son is playing soccer (open to girls) and Basketball at the moment - lots of sports teams around.

We only live 10 mins from the city and 20 mins from a beach - ideal for us.
