Hi Laura
I've been to Bunbury a couple of times although the last time was three years ago and I posted a reply to a similar thread a while back which I'll paste to give you another opinion for what it's worth.

Don’t know anything about Dalyellup but I’ve relatives in Australind which is the other side of Bunbury so I can only give you an opinion based on my short visits… they are very settled in Australind.. about 15 mins drive into Bunbury - no traffic jams there as I remember!

Further north around SH, Halls Head has nice older more established housing, Dudley Park is nice, look at Meadow Springs or Silver Sands which is the ocean side of the road but I imagine house prices have rocketed since I was there. My uncle tells me Secret Harbour is still a lovely area too along with Port Kennedy, in a good position between Mandurah and Rockingham to enjoy their facilities. Looking back I'd say SH was a little bit too legolandish for me but some people like that.

Bunbury is a city in its own right, it’ll have everything you need without having to go to Perth that often and away from the congestion in Perth. The schools seem good, it has a University campus as well as Tafe and is an up-and-coming place due to lots of development over recent years, Bunbury Regional Hospital looks modern and has a good reputation. Easy access to the south... Busselton and Margaret River are great for days out.

The town centre used to be a bit tatty I thought but last time there I thought it was quite attractive and gracious. House prices should be lower than Perth. There was a new waterside area being developed (which should be finished now!), restaurants and cafes etc... was looking good. Don’t know much about the different suburbs apart from Australind which is on the estuary, lovely laid back place, small shopping centre, good new leisure centre and no one seems in a rush. My cousin has two young children at Australind Primary and is very happy with it. I would say Bunbury/Australind is very suitable families with younger children.

I wouldn’t choose Bunbury myself, it’s a quiet town and although I think it’d be great for my three younger children 10, 8 & 8… my two teenagers 15 & 17 would I think prefer Perth for obvious reasons! I think it's more about how you live your life rather than where you happen to live. I've lived in Perth before but personally wouldn't choose to live there again. As you know another person will have completely different views so there really is only one way to find out... Good Luck!
