Having lived in South Yarra myself while on my 457, I'd highly recommend it. Public transport to the CBD is so convenient, and yet it has a village feel to it if you live slightly away from Chapel Street. I lived within a walking distance from Chapel St, and there's always plenty of places to visit, shop, eat etc. There are plenty of schools around the area. Try Prahran, Malvern, Toorak (if you can afford it), Hawthorn (a bit further out but not that much). Good luck!
