Offer on the house at last
It's been an odd journey, but we had finally had an offer at £14,000 below our original starting price. If I think about it, it is a realistic price for the market as it stands now. Admittedly it was slightly less than one that sold last summer and was in worse condition than ours. I think we are looking at prices that they were fetching a couple of years ago.
I've heard quite a few reasons for them not selling, but one I found interesting was that people are opting to rent because it's cheaper than paying a mortgage. That's certainly a turn around from when we first chose buying over renting nearly 11 years ago for the opposite reason. We had considered renting until hubby came back with the rumour that we'd have to pay 40% tax on any money brought into Oz after a year (and it turns out that rumour was all it was). So we decided we'd be better off dropping the price now and being better off in the long run. This was still probably the best idea because the last viewers (who we hadn't heard back from for weeks) got a sudden burst of interest and put in an offer.
Now, just how to break the news to my OH that the rumours weren't true.
Cara
PS: Wishing the best of luck to all those still waiting for that offer and to anyone considering renting.
