You are confusing residency status with TAX residency status. All people who are residents in Australia for tax purposes, regardless of their immigration status, are taxed the same. Normally to be tax resident you need to live in Oz more than 6 months of the year.
Some tax breaks are available to you on your visas, such as not having to pay tax in Australia on income earned and retained overseas.
