Usual advice from anyone in education is first find where you want to live! There will be lots of factors that influence that - proximity to work, cost of housing, niceness (or not) of neighbourhood etc. You may find the perfect school in Toorak (as an example) but then not be able to afford even a garret to live in even vaguely close to the school.

Then when you have narrowed down your liveable area then have a look at schools. There will be a range of govt and private schools and they will probably be able to offer different things so if your kids are artistic then you would veer towards one which offers more arty stuff whereas if they are sporty you would perhaps head off in a different direction.

Once you have narrowed them down in that way (a bit of over the backfence chat is usually good gen too) then go and visit and see what they feel like. Some schools sell themselves really well on paper or the internet but when you front up to them you just know that there is no way on earth you would send your kids there!

Realistically, the "best" are probably going to be the very high fee paying private schools but you probably wont be wanting to head down that path.

Good luck with it!
