whale Watching, Fraser Island, Hervey Bay!

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site!
Was looking at this forum with interest.... We visited QLD in August and went to Hervey Bay for a few days on our way up to Cairns...

The receptionist at the hotel we stayed in recommended we go to Fraser Island and as it was the right time of year Whale watching in the Bay!

What an amazing experience! We saw around 10 whales... Close up, in fact so close you could almost touch them... coming up out of the water having a look at us in the boat, having a splish splash around and making the whale noises that you've probably only ever heard on tape! We have to some of the most fabulous pictures from that trip.

We also visited Fraser Island and this is a place that we hope to return to one day in order to explore the whole island properly... There are Dingoes on the island and that's not such a good thing if you have small children as they can be quite nasty.
However, we didn't see any when we were there, The island is a massive sand bank with fresh water springs, and temperate rain forest.. as well as an amazing fresh water lake in the Called Lake Mackenzie... what a magical place.
