Hi we originally wanted to go to Aus and then was so set on NZ for a couple of years. Went out last summer and toured around North. It is a magical country really beautiful and we had such a great time, BUT and there is a but, we found it a little too quite! The towns are far apart and alot of sheep in between. We are a young family 35/33 with kids 9/5 and we were a bit concerned what they would do when they were teenagers. I think if we were much older we would find it a really restful place to be. If you live in say Wales right now or are used to a slow rural lifestyle here in England you may adjust easier. Another thing that I found is how much I love wildlife and animals and there is mainly birdlife here so I felt something was missing. (Marine Life is there of course).

Good points are camping and beaches are beautiful, people friendly, mind winters (we went in August and it was pleasant like our spring. Towns we thought were great to live perhaps were Tauranga (East coast North) and Whangeri in Northland. Walking great and of course no bugs like Aus!!!! Felt really safe there too.

We decided it wasn't for us and are now looking at Brisbane area Aus. The climate is much more consistent there year round, only gutted we didn't go there, but that's life! Also we would love to go to NZ for holidays and explore more.

Hope that helps! Bernie
